Completed speakers with system. Yep, that's old Dynaco gear back there! I'm not into vintage gear - just cheap! The passive sub is from my old Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble 3 system (update: they've since been sold and the woofer is no longer there).
The stands are PVC pipe painted black. A length of threaded rod holds the pipe, base, and top cleat together. Flat steel legs make the stands very stable. Without the legs, they originally held the small Cambridge satellites. Carpet spikes are simply archery field points with matching threaded inserts.
Speaker cables are the best 16AWG zipcord money can buy!
Rest of system:
Thorens
TD-160 turntable (original owner)
Audio Technica AT130E cartridge
Update: The old Dynaco gear shown in the photo has
been replaced by a Harman/Kardon DPR 1001 receiver, and the Arcam CDP by an
el cheapo but fine Pioneer DV-630A "universal" player. All eBay finds.
Now I can see what all this SACD and DVD-A noise is about. The Adcom amp is
connected to the receiver's preouts through the passive dipole EQ. Still stereo
only...for now.
Pioneer PDM 40 CD changer (mostly for background music)
Monster speaker switch box
Adcom GFA 545-II power amp 100 watt/channel (second hand) Replaced deceased
Dynaco Stereo 120
Radio Shack 2-way in-wall speakers in living room ceiling for background music
Cable and interconnects:
I don't believe in voodoo wire and coudn't afford it if I did. See my "Audio
Wisdom" page.
